The Georgia Council of Professional Archaeologists establishes and promotes standards and guidelines for investigations within the state of Georgia to encourage consistent and high-quality archaeological practice. The Council approved the latest updated version of these standards in 2019. The document is available as a PDF with the following linkĀ  Georgia Standards and Guidelines for Archaeological Investigations (Revised 2019).

An abbreviated report format is approved for use on Phase I archaeological surveys that result in negative findings. A PDF version of a sample template for such negative findings report can be found here: Short Report link. A full Phase I archaeological report must be prepared for all projects that identify new and previously identified archaeological sites or other historic properties within the project survey APE. Any questions regarding the applicability of the Archaeological Short Report to a specific project should be directed to Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (GASHPO) staff archaeologists.
